1. Prepare the equipment: Ensure machines are properly installed, foundations are solid and shafts can rotate freely.
2. Mount the dial indicator: Mount the dial indicator at 90° to the coupling on the stationary machine.
3. Take initial readings: Rotate the shafts together and record the dial readings at 0°, 90°, 180° and 270°.
4. Calculate misalignment: Use the readings to calculate vertical and horizontal misalignment.
5. Correct the misalignment: Adjust machine position using horizontal and vertical corrections (move machine or add shims).
6. Re-check the alignment: Repeat the measurement and record readings again at 0°, 90°, 180° and 270°.
7. Confirm alignment: Ensure all readings are within acceptable tolerance. Alignment is complete.
