WHAT IS A DIODE? WHAT IS A DIODE USED FOR?

DISCOVER AUTOMATION - DAILY USEFUL KNOWLEDGE

WHAT IS A DIODE? WHAT IS A DIODE USED FOR? ⚡ Did you know that a diode is one of the most important components in electronic circuits?

A diode has the characteristic of allowing current to pass primarily in one direction while restricting it in the reverse direction.

A – Anode

K – Cathode

Simply put: A diode acts like a one-way valve for electrical current.

Diodes are used in a wide range of applications:

✅ AC to DC rectification

✅ Circuit protection against reverse polarity

✅ Protecting control circuits from the reverse voltage of relays and coils

✅ LEDs – light-emitting diodes

✅ Voltage stabilization and limiting using Zener diodes

Quick rule:

A → K: Forward biased → conducts

K → A: Reverse biased → blocks

Having a clear understanding of diodes will help you better approach power supply circuits, relays, LEDs, Arduino, ESP32, and automated control systems.
